Specialty Food Products

Knowing where to find specialty food products—such as non-wheat alternatives or organic produce—may be a challenge. In this section, we list some resources to help get you started.

Important: We are not in any way endorsing any of the companies, farms, products or manufacturers listed in this section. Also know that products (and companies) listed represent only a small fraction of the many available in the marketplace today.

Non-Wheat Products and Alternative Grains
Here are just a handful of non-wheat food products we’ve found at our local health food store in California. Most are made with alternative grains, such as rice, Kamut®, quinoa, rye, spelt, oats and others. We also list some manufacturers or producers to help you locate these products in your area.

• Crackers– Mary’s Gone Crackers® and Brown Rice Snaps™
• Lundberg Family Farms for organic rice cakes
• Breads (organic, sugar-free, wheat-free, yeast-free) – A variety of breads made by    Mestermacher, a German company. You can find these breads in specialty health food    stores or on the Internet.
• Arrowhead Mills, which provides non-wheat, organic pancake mixes, organic green    lentils, organic chickpeas and more
• Eden Organic
• Bob’s Red Mill for oatmeal and other products
• Non-wheat soy sauce, made by San-J, and called “Organic Tamari Wheat-Free Soy    Sauce”
• Authentic Foods Superfine Brown Rice Flour, available at Whole Foods Market; sent in by    reader who likes this flour’s fine texture

Organic Fruits and Vegetables
You can find organic fruits and vegetables in either the organic section of your grocery store, a local health food store, or your local farmer’s market. There are also companies that offer service delivery of organic produce from local farms, or local farms that deliver. These include:
